The Municipality seeks to appoint suitably qualified persons to the following positions within the
WATER SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
GIS DATA ADMINISTRATOR
Total Annual Salary: R 226 893 pa
Reporting to the Senior Manager: Water Services Authority and Administration, the successful candidate will be
responsible for the following duties, inter-alia:
- Preparing and monitoring quality control standards and requirements of spatial and tabular data capture,
storage, and use.
- Analysing processes, developing action plans and implementing viable GIS solutions with the entire Municipality
- Monitoring, analysing and improving performance of application software.
- Working with departments to improve and implement automation of tasks.
- Assisting co-workers with data creation and collection including the principals and practices of
Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
- Compiling data from legal documents (deeds, tiles), map files, outside developers, survey notes,
and other sources; using information to produce digital maps, plans, overlays, GIS layers and cartographic
records for Municipality and other departments.
- Data capturing on DIMS, GIS Website, Assets Management and other GIS information.
- Providing holistic services to internal and external customers by seeking ways to
integrate programs or services provided by other departments, sections or units, and external entities
- Utilising word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, geographical information system (GIS),
mapping, computer aided design (CAD), internet, email, or other computer programs
- Ad hoc duties as may be assigned
Requirements:
- A valid Grade 12 certificate
- A Degree/Diploma in Geography, Survey, Civil Engineering, Town and regional Planning, Computer Science,
Management, Information Systems or closely related field
- A Degree/ Diploma in GIS or Town and Regional Planning, Land Surveying or Civil Engineering.
- Diploma/Certificate in any ESRI software packages
- Provide a sound overall knowledge and understanding of development planning, geographic features and GIS
theory and technical skills or models.
- A minimum of 1 - 3 years relevant experience
- Qualifications in one of the following will be an added advantage:
Training in any ERSI software package; CAD System; Basic Cartographic skills; ArcInfo;
ArcMap; ArcIMS; Microsoft Office; PowerPoint; Map server; GPS Operation & Tracking software
- A valid, code EB driver's licence
- Ability to communicate in English and iSiZulu
