Emotions of joy surfaced among members of the KwaMbotho Tribal area after the long-awaited official opening of the KwaMbotho Community Hall under Umuziwabantu Municipality recently.

Ugu Mayor, Cllr Sthembiso Cele officially opened the KwaMbotho Community Hall shortly after its rehabilitation following the infrastructure damage by a storm.

An amount over R474 000 was utilised for the rehabilitation of the hall, which included the superstructure work, block work, floor covering, carpentry and joinery, ceiling work, roofing and electrical installation with minor site works on the establishment.

At the handing over ceremony, Mayor Cele said it gives him great pleasure to officially handover this anticipated community development structure to the people of KwaMbotho Community. "I am glad that local labour was also utilised in this project. Our records show that 11 people, which are 2 females and 9 males, were employed from the commencement to completion of this project, giving them an opportunity to put food on their tables," said Mayor Cele.

A group of residents in the area unanimously said they are extremely grateful to the Mayor of Ugu for rehabilitating the much-needed community hall. They said they had given up on this establishment ever being operational again and are grateful that Mayor Cele was able to fulfil his promise of bringing the hall back to life.

It transpired at the gathering that another contributing factor to the damage of the KwaMbotho Hall was poor workmanship."I am glad that we as Ugu, have delivered as promised. The community can also soon expect road works in the area to further improve the current road conditions. I will speak to the MEC for Transport, Mr Bheki Cele and ask him to give me first allocation of his budget to upgrade the roads of the KwaMbotho Community," the Mayor said.
