The Municipality seeks to appoint suitably qualified persons to the following positions within Water Services Department:

PLUMBER X 2 (SOUTH WEST)
Total Annual Salary: R 156 424


Reporting to the Area Technical Officer, the successful candidates will be responsible for the following duties, inter-alia:
  • Reduction of water loss in his/ her area
  • Maintenance of attendance, discipline and health & safety of staff under his/ her control
  • Ensuring that vehicles, tools and equipment are kept in a clean and well maintained working condition
  • Completing and submission of monthly reports to the Foreman
  • Maintenance of valves, meters, plumbing installations and water reticulation systems
  • Co-ordinates activities associated with the construction and installation of water reticulation networks
  • Visually examining seams, joints and welds on piping reticulation and plumbing systems, fixtures and fittings
  • Completing 'critical inspection point' cycle and attending to cleaning of drainage systems (unblocking and treatment)
  • Removing and replacing valves, seals and filtration devices controlling high and low pressure water reticulation
  • Recording of water losses through leaks, breaks etc. and submitting reports to the responsible Foreman
  • Inspecting and identifying leaks in the system, isolating defective area and commencing with repair sequence.
  • Cutting/removing and replacing defective sections using welding techniques and/or couplings to secure joints
  • Removing and replacing defective flow metering units and connections to domestic household/industrial premises.
Requirements:
  • A valid Grade 12 certificate
  • Trade tested Artisan
  • A plumbing qualification from a recognized institution
  • Relevant plumbing experience in Municipal Water Reticulation
  • A valid, clean Code EC Driver's licence. PrDP
  • Certification of competency in the operation of truck mounted cranes.
  • Required to work in all weather conditions
  • Required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies
  • Required to be on standby
