Ugu Mayor Sthembiso Cele, was, this week honoured by Professional Management Review institute, (PMR Africa) for his leadership in driving the Ugu region and for his municipality's improved service delivery and development initiatives. The municipality received four awards.

The awards were made at a breakfast meeting attended by hundreds of business people from the greater South Coast area.

The municipality received the four accolades competing against other companies and organisations on the South Coast. Amongst the awards was a Silver Arrow awarded to Mayor Cele for the most pro-active mayor in the past 12 months and another Silver Arrow Award to Ugu District Municipality for Local Government Initiatives and Achievement.

Receiving awards of such calibre, Mayor Cele said he was honoured that Ugu District Municipality is recognised in this manner by business. "Indeed we are excited at the prospect of being recognised for what we are doing to improve the lives of our people. We are however, mindful of the fact that we need to work even harder to reach even more people," said Mayor Cele.

PMR Africa is an independent private company that benchmarks business, government, professions, education and labour, amongst other things. Last year the institute honoured KZN MEC for Finance, Dr Zweli Mkhize for his outstanding leadership in promoting the economic potential of the province of KwaZulu Natal.
