Mayor donates computer centres to schools


mayordonatescomputers1.jpgSchools across the district have in the past week benefited from the mayoral computer centre program which is part of the Ugu District Municipality’s initiative of providing students from rural schools with computer literacy.

Her worship the mayor, Cllr NH Gumede handed over fully equipped computer centres to six schools across the district. And the benefitting schools were Sister Joans High School under Hibiscus Coast, KwaHluzingqondo High School in Umdoni, Sizophumelela High School in Vulamehlo, Nani High school in Umzumbe, Idwala Lesizwe High School in Ezinqoleni and Mlotshwa Secondary School in Umuziwabantu.

The computer centres will be able to accommodate eleven learners at a time and this is in line with the municipality’s developmental mandate of improving the levels of education particularly in rural schools. On receiving these computer centres, the school principals together with the leadership of the schools expressed their appreciation of these computers centres and also gave commitment towards ensuring that these centres will be well taken care of for the benefit of the learners.

Addressing pupils and leadership of the different schools, the Mayor emphasized on the municipality’s continuing efforts of ensuring that every school child receives the desired level of education without having any obstacle irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds. And that in the 20th century computers have become another tool of education for learners.

The Mayor continued to say, “The Municipality has planted a seed towards ensuring improved level of academic performance as a need was identified to assist pupils from rural schools acquire basic computer skills to better perform in tertiary institutions and in the workplace.”

The Municipality is committed to assisting pupils from rural schools receive education in a conducive environment with adequate resources for the achievement of good results.

Ugu District Municipality promotes working together to create an environment that is friendly, responsive, accountable, effective and efficient for local communities.
