Another two rural schools have become beneficiaries of the Ugu District Municipality’sMayoral Computer Programme after the Ugu Mayor, Cllr Ntombifikile Gumede donated 22 computers to the schools and officially opened their computer centres this week.
Bhanoyi High School in Umzumbe and Sizathina High School in Vulamehlo add to a list of seven other schools who have become beneficiaries of fully equipped computer centres. To date, nine high schools plus the Esayidi TVET, Gamalakhe Campus have benefited from this programme since its inception in January this year. This translates to 110 brand new and used computers donated by the district municipality.
The donation of these computer centres is in line with the municipality’s developmental mandate of improving the levels of education particularly in rural schools.
On receiving these computer centres, the school principals together with the leadership of the schools expressed their earnest appreciation of these computers centres and committed to ensuring they are utilised for its purpose to empower learners and will be well taken care of.
Addressing pupils and leadership of the different schools, the Mayor emphasized on the municipality’s continuing efforts of ensuring that every school child receives the desired level of education without having any obstacle irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds. And that in the 20th century computers have become another tool of education for learners.
The Mayor continued to say, “The Municipality has planted a seed towards ensuring an improved level of academic performance as a need was identified to assist pupils from rural schools acquire basic computer skills to better perform in tertiary institutions and in the workplace.”
The Municipality is committed to assisting pupils from rural schools receive education in a conducive environment with adequate resources for the achievement of good results.
